Westshore Surge Bin
KWH was contracted by Westmar Consultants to replace the existing surge bin at Westshore’s coal loader terminal. The old bin was demolished and replaced with 100 tonnes worth of the new bin and support structure—all during a planned 14 day shut-down.
The original design called for a welded seam to connect the upper and lower sections of the bin. KWH proposed a bolted flange connection, which was incorporated into the fabrication and saved precious time in this shutdown. The result on changing details and careful planning resulted in the shutdown being completed 2 days early.
