Kicking Horse Park Bridge
Location: Golden, BC Contract Value: $2.5M
KWH installed this impressive curved steel girder bridge high in the rugged Rocky Mountains of British Columbia. The unique design/build bridge was erected in the Kicking Horse Pass. KWH/Somerset was brought in at bid stage by the GC to work with the designer to make this bridge launchable. The new bridge is just over 1,310 feet long at heights up to 295 feet above the canyon floor. KWH designed, built and operated a proprietary automated launch system for this project. Features include a launch system with using four 60-Ton launching rams with 6.5-foot stroke, flange and wedge clamps, guide systems at piers, and ‘nose girders’. The girders were launched in pairs from one side and pushed uphill, adding girders one by one as it was moved ahead. This bridge has won many engineering awards for its accomplishments.
