Pattullo Bridge Retrofit

This 80-year-old truss arch bridge has been modified and strengthened over recent years and KWH Constructors has performed many of these contracts. On both the main arch and approaches, KWH has added many new members. Some were required for updating of seismic loads and others were replacements for members that had suffered severe corrosion over many years. The added difficulty to changing out members was a combination of working on lane closures at night and others were replacements for members directly under the roadway deck. Temporary rigging and lifting members from the river from barges was required to access these areas. KWH also removed old roadway deck joints and replaced them with new, rubber seal type joints under partial nighttime closure of traffic lanes.
