WSDOT Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal OHL

Location: Bainbridge Island, WA Contract Value: $1.1M

KWH was awarded the erection of the new ferry terminal pedestrian walkway on Bainbridge Island, WA. This bridge is made up of four truss spans totaling over 375 feet in length and is to be installed during a 1-week closure of the ferry terminal allowing only walk-on passengers. Due to the limited staging real estate, the spans will be shipped by barge from the fabrication shop in Tacoma to the ferry terminal. While coordinating with the active ferry schedule, the barge will offload at the ferry boat slips and roll off the spans using self-propelled dollies. The pier has limited capacity due to its age, so the cranes used for the pick required engineered outrigger placements and matting to prevent damage to the existing structure. Additional work included the erection of a temporary pedestrian bridge and elevator CAB rehabilitation.
